No excuses now.
I did not say "it runs just fine", because there are a few crash issues (which I've fixed on mine) and a few graphical issues (which I haven't because they're hillarious).
Download Links for (almost) all AoS Versions!
Due to multiple death threats I have decided to update the download everything link. Have fun with all the versions that nobody plays.

its not like anyone plays 0.75 either lol

The new download link seems requires some decryption key...
By the way, I hope this isn't considered derailing the thread, but I've been unable to run old clients from the command line like I used to. I think they've changed the protocol, so that now one would need the launcher to "translate" the it. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong, I don't know.

I don't remember exactly how I used to do it. The way I tried recently was copying the server address and going like:
wine client.exe aos://1212074645:32885:0.75
As you can probably tell by now, I'm on Linux. I have tried variations on that, but to no avail. I keep getting a server disconnect message. If I type a fake number, it gives me a "connection failed" message, which is different. It means I'm able to reach the server, but then something wrong happens.
Yes, I am using the 0.75 client, it says so in the readme. I don know where I downloaded that from. It comes with a launcher.
I suppose it COULD be a wine update that broke things, or still, me doing it wrong, but I'm suspicious of a minor protocol change.

Try wine client.exe //1212074645:32885

Now that I downloaded the old clients, I am POSITIVE that the 0.75 I had previously is different from the one we can download here. This one has no launcher, and gives me a different error message. If I try to connect to a 0.75 server now, it says "Version conflict". I tried using this client to connect to a 0.76 server, just out of curiosity, and it says "Server connection failled". Weird.
(Again, I have tried several variations on the command, including the one suggested by ATHEISTs_r_us, and variations on that, but it's a no go)
Can i create server or play somehow on 0.1 client?
