By registering and maintaining a Build and Shoot account, you agree to abide by the following rules and regulations to the best of your ability, and accept all consequences imparted upon you by staff should you fail to do so. All rules are effective immediately.

Respect & General Behaviour
- First and foremost, you will behave respectfully toward all members of the forum at all times, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, personal and religious beliefs, or other traits which should not affect the way in which you behave toward them or others on the forum. You understand that while you do not have to like or interact with every forum user, you can contribute to the betterment of forum atmosphere by remaining civil, polite and respectful at all times.

- If you do take issue with a person's beliefs, you will either attempt to settle your differences in a private manner, or at least remain neutral toward them and avoid discussions which do not result in civilized discourse. In extreme cases, you will approach community staff to help deal with the situation, and provide advice if necessary.

- You will not insult, impersonate, disparage or undermine members of the forum, and if your thoughts regarding members of the forum or their creations -- including clans and modifications -- cannot be expressed in a civilized manner, you will not post. You understand that this does not mean you are not allowed to 'joke around' with other forum users, but also realise that a joke is only a joke when all (direct) parties to it believe it to be so.

- You will respect all decisions imparted unto me, others, or to the forum in general by forum staff, and will not attempt to undermine their ability to effectively moderate the forum, nor will you attempt to subvert their authority or avoid and evade punishment.

Illegal Content
- No pornography, adult, or mature content. If you wouldn't be comfortable viewing the content at work or with family members around, then it probably isn't appropriate. This includes, but is not limited to, posts or links to pages with images or videos containing:

Strategically covered nudity
Sheer or see-through clothing
Lewd or provocative poses
Close-ups of breasts, buttocks, or crotches

- You will not post links to illegal or legal 'gray-area' websites, including those which facilitate internet piracy and online drug trafficking.

- Beyond the sphere of regular internet humour, you will not advocate or encourage illegal activities, including but not limited to illicit drug use.

Posting Etiquette
- You will aim to make all of your forum posts as high quality as they can be, in order to contribute to active discussion and forum atmosphere. To help this happen, you will follow all rules outlined in this section. Many of these rules and guidelines have been copied verbatim from http://forum-services-review.toptenrevi ... -tips.html.

1. Read the forums rules and guidelines before posting for the first time.

2. Search the other posts to see if your topic is already covered.

3. Do not use a forum to promote your product, service or business.

4. Stay on topic. Make sure your post is in the relevant section.

5. Ignore spammers and report them. The best course of action is to not respond.

6. Do not submit a post that requires readers to download a large attachment. Either explain the attachment or, better yet, provide a link to the information.

7. Use plain text if you want your post to be readable by everyone.

8. In order to be understood by most people, use correct spelling, grammar and avoid slang unless you know the word or phrase will be understood by other members.

9. Do not double post (post the same message twice in one thread) or cross post (place the same message across several forums). Exceptions can and will be made for 'reserving' posts for later editing, such as in clan, event or project threads.

10. Do not use all caps or SHOUT in your posts. In addition, one exclamation point is enough.

11. When replying to a post, do not quote more from the previous post than you have to.

12. Do not post new problems on someone else's thread and interrupt a topic of discussion.

13. Do not use someone else’s thread for a private conversation.

14. Watch your sense of humor, posts may be read by people from a variety of backgrounds and ages.

15. Do not use a huge and annoying signature, a modest signature is fine, moderators may remove large ones anyway.

16. Do not post any information that you want private. Posts should only contain personal, identifiable information if you are comfortable with it, and can accept the potential consequences assosciated with doing so. Generally speaking, it is wise to avoid sharing this kind of information.

17. Do not post content that violates a copyright.

18. Do not post ”empty” or useless responses, such as just ”lol” or ”cool.” Only post responses when you have something to contribute.

19. Regarding 'necro-posting', understand that a necro-post occurs when a forum user replies to a topic which has not had a reply for more than 3 months where the reply in question does not or very minimally contributes to the relevant discussion. If the reply does in fact contribute to discussion, it is not a necro-post. This is in actuality encouraged, as it promotes use of the search function to find topics. If a necro-post does occur, do not further reply to the topic lamenting the necro-posting -- instead, contact community staff to deal with the issue.

20. Do not chastise newbies.

Reporting and Discipline
- If you feel these rules have been violated against myself or others, you will take appropriate measures to ensure the violating party is properly reported to community staff by 1) using the forum's built-in "report post" feature, 2) sending any one of them a private message through the forums, and/or 3) querying anyone with the @ symbol preceding their name in our IRC channel. You will not "bite back" or otherwise violate these rules yourself, as you understand that two wrongs do not make a right.

- You understand that all discussion, debate, suggestions and complaints regarding site rules and guidelines should be confined either to this thread, or given directly to community staff.

Following implementation of these rules, you will not attempt to 'test the waters' or otherwise try and bend the rules and guidelines outlined in this post. You will not deliberately make the job of community staff more difficult than it already is, and understand that doing so will result in disciplinary action.

Very interesting! :) I am also glad about how we should just report necro-ing to the staff if necessary. And I am thankful of the idea of not beating down newbies because to them, it isn't fair. I can't wait to see how much the forums will change when these rules take action! :D Good job willy!

Yeah, they will be. As we have a written set of rules now, we shall soon present a new penalty/warning system that will take place in the near future.

cool

nah but serious tho, this is really great. I've been a lurker in other forums and the tendency I always saw was that forums with a written set of rules tended to have much better administration overall, due to the streamlining and not having to rely purely on the mod's personal judgement in general.

Before you start with the warnings (which I hope will have a countdown after which they expire), it would be nice if you could clear out the one warning I've had for probably a year now for something I didn't do.

Yeah, it'd be good to do a clean-slate sort of thing with past warnings.

I'm glad about the rules btw, this place has needed some concrete list of what not to do for some time.

We'll definitely be having some conversations about warning expiry. Personally I would like to see a set timeframe for warning expiry, and current warnings older than this timeframe would be removed, but we'll see what happens :)

As someone with a warning as well, I agree that warnings should be reset, or at least have some kind of expiry date.

Anyway, nice to see that this forum has a set of rules formed, I hope this means less people bumping year-old topics and the like.

So the warning system will be as same as the 2nd-gen forums?
Other than that, great to see some rules enforced, things are getting out of control somewhat. But do you guys have any other methods to control spam? I think we need captcha or whatever that is called now.

And off-topic, please fix the mobile version, it keeps submitting my posts twice and I can't delete them, it's annoying D:
